The Sixth Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was held at the headquarters of the Party Central Committee on January 19 to discuss and decide on the immediate work and important political issues of the Party and state.

The respected Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the WPK, attended the meeting.

Present there were members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK.

Kim Jong Un presided over the meeting.

The meeting first discussed the issue on grandly celebrating the 110th birth anniversary of the great leader Kim Il Sung and the 80th birth anniversary of the great leader Kim Jong Il.

It stressed the need to make the Day of the Sun and the Day of the Shining Star, the birth anniversaries of the great leaders, in this historic year an important political occasion for further strengthening the firm faith of the Korean people to carry forward and accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche pioneered and led by the great leaders under the leadership of the Party and for demonstrating all over the world the high enthusiasm and revolutionary spirit of the entire Party members and other people to glorify the 2020s as a decade of victors in achieving overall development of the Korean-style socialism.

The Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee allotted detailed tasks to the Party and state organs for celebrating the birth anniversaries of the great leaders as a grand festival of victory and glory to shine forever in the history of the country.

The meeting adopted the decision of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK "On Grandly Celebrating the 110th Birth Anniversary of the Great Leader Kim Il Sung and the 80th Birth Anniversary of the Great Leader Kim Jong Il".

Then, the meeting heard a report on the current situation around the Korean peninsula and some international issues and discussed the future orientation for coping with the United States.

It was informed of the recent indiscreet moves of the United States unreasonably finding fault with the just exercise of sovereignty of our state.

In recent years alone after the DPRK-US summit talks, the United States has conducted the joint military exercises it committed itself to suspend hundreds of times and tested strategic weapons of different kinds. Furthermore, it introduced the latest offensive military means into south Korea and deployed the strategic nuclear weapons in and around the Korean peninsula, seriously threatening the security of our state.

Maliciously slandering our state, it took independent sanctions for more than 20 times and, especially, the present US administration persistently tries to emasculate our rights to self-defense.

Facts clearly prove once again that as long as the hostile US imperialism exits, the hostile policy towards the DPRK would continue as ever.

The Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee evaluated that the US hostile policy and military threat have reached the line of danger that can no longer be overlooked despite sincere efforts our state had made after the DPRK-US summit talks in Singapore for continued detente on the Korean peninsula. Unanimously admitting that the DPRK must be more fully ready for protracted confrontation with the US imperialism, it came to a conclusion that it must go over to practical actions to consolidate more reliably and more precisely our physical strength for defending the dignity of our state and its national rights and interests.

The meeting reconfirmed the tasks of defence policy to strengthen and develop without delay more powerful physical means to definitely overpower the daily intensifying hostile moves of the United States. It instructed the field concerned to reconsider all the confidence-building measures previously and voluntarily taken by our state and rapidly examine the issue on resuming all actions which had been temporarily suspended.

The decision adopted at the meeting is a timely and just measure to reliably guarantee the existence of our state and its sovereignty in the light of the pressing demand of the developing revolution and under the prevailing situation.
