A meeting was held in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People on May 10 in celebration of the 100th founding anniversary of the Young Communist League of China.
It was attended by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, president of the People’s Republic of China and chairman of the Central Military Commission, and other senior Party, government and army officials, those in the field of mass organizations and the delegates of the youth organization.
Xi Jinping made a speech.
He said that the Young Communist League has written the chapter of youth in the course of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation as it, not forgetting its first intention, has led young people to devote their all efforts to achieving national independence and people’s liberation and bringing national prosperity and people’s happiness under the firm leadership of the CPC over the past 100 years.
History and practice have proved that the league is the vanguard of the Chinese youth movement, helper faithful to the Party and its reliable reserve, he said.
How to fight to realize the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation by attaining the goals of the second century by successfully rallying, organizing and mobilizing young people in the new journey is an important task which should be solved without fail by the Chinese youth movement and youth affairs in a new era, he added.
Referring to the major tasks facing the Young Communist League, he pointed to the need for broad sections of its members in the new era to give full play to the patriotic spirit with a far-reaching ideal, work hard to become backbones and youth vanguard in all fields and keep their feet planted firmly in the reality, become a screw nail that gathers no rust forever and strictly fulfil the duty of its members.
He added that Party committees and organizations at all levels should carefully organize youth affairs by displaying the greatest enthusiasm and energies, become close friends of young people, enthusiasts in youth affairs and guides of young masses and help the youth organization conduct its work creatively in line with its characteristic features.
