The Chollima Tile Factory is satisfactorily producing and supplying tiles demanded in major construction sites.

“Our factory exceeded the peak year level last year. Through last year’s production, we keenly realized once again that the guarantee for reenergizing production lies in the reinforcement of our technical forces and giving priority to science and technology,” said Ri Hong Rim, manager of the factory.

The factory, first of all, directs a great deal of efforts to reinforcing its technical forces.

It is well evidenced by the fact that the closest attention is paid to reinforcing forces of the industrial laboratory, which specializes in the research for tiles for outer and inner walls, marble tiles, artificial marble and printing process.

The factory appoints men of ability there, assigns each of them tasks of technical innovation that can substantially contribute to current and prospective production every year, significantly conducts appraisal according to the fulfilment of the tasks and spares no investment in consolidating the material and technological foundations of the industrial laboratory.

Thus, technicians of the laboratory this year developed a fluidized-bed hot-blast stove of great utility and introduced it into the tile production process, making it possible to annually save thousands of tons of coal.

Meanwhile, the factory specially selected dozens of management, technical and functional personnel and pushed them to fully display their ability, thus promoting the development of new products, remoulding of irrational production processes and the innovation of unit work.

In the course of this, it developed a new type of tiles whose width and length are 600mm and 1 200mm respectively in keeping with the global trend, in which tile production is advancing towards making large-sized ones, and moulding tiles effective in improving the modernity of dwelling houses and public buildings.

And the factory is giving spurs to research for solving the problem of almost all raw materials needed for production at home.

An example came when it solved the problem of glaze, the most important raw material for the production of inner wall tiles.

“There is not as essential raw material as glaze for the tile industry. The glaze problem should decisively be solved in order to make the tile industry thoroughly Juche-oriented,” said the chief engineer of the factory.

In the past, the factory had imported glaze since some of raw materials needed for the production of glaze are not available in the country.

Last year, it found out a mineral that could substitute a raw material necessary for the production of glaze and confirmed a reasonable rate of composition of different raw materials, thereby establishing a glaze production process that relies on domestic materials.

As a result, it produced and supplied tiles needed for the construction of Songhwa Street, Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District and dwelling houses in the Komdok area by relying on the glaze it had made by itself last year.

When an urgent task of producing tiles for annual amount in a short span of time arose last year, it remoulded the floor tile production line, and thus produced well over a million more square metres of different tiles, including tiles for outer and inner walls, than planned.

This year, too, the factory is making steady efforts to increase the variety of tiles and upgrade production processes.
