Over the past 10 years, the Pyongyang Vegetable Science Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science has registered over 70 kinds of vegetables as national varieties, established new cultivating techniques and produced a lot of greenhouse vegetables every year, contributing to the improvement of the people's diet.
The respected Kim Jong Un visited the institute on September 21, Juche 101(2012) and presented important tasks facing it including the issue on finding out and cultivating a larger number of choice varieties that suit the natural features of the country and have high nutritive value and good taste.
The officials, researchers and cultivators of the institute succeeded in acclimatizing various kinds of functional vegetables to the climatic and soil conditions of the country.
They bred varieties of vegetables with shorter growth period than before and high productivity by bionic technique and made hundreds of research findings including nutrition diagnosis technology.
The institute has helped the construction of greenhouses across the country and disseminated scientific and technological knowledge of vegetable cultivation.
