In recent years officials and employees of the Pyongyang Floriculture Institute have made successes in the research and cultivation of flowering plants.
They have bred some varieties of plants with beautiful flowers, long blooming duration and strong vitality and acclimatized world-famous flower seeds to the climatic conditions of the country, thus registering 170 new varieties including dwarf cosmos and globe amaranth as the national varieties.
They have also bred new varieties of famous ornamental flowering plants by crossing and gene transfer.
They have established a floricultural system according to the condition of new unheating hothouse and solved sci-tech problems arising in the production of rare flowers, thus growing different colours of rose and varieties of cactus and establishing a method of cultivation by nutritive liquid which can cultivate rose even in winter.
