In the DPRK, people usually say that 60 is the prime of life and 90 is the first step to old age.
In the past, 60 years of age meant that a man had lived his whole life, but it has become an old saying in the era of the Workers’ Party.
The state takes responsible care of the people’s health and the public health sector thoroughly implements the policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea on preventive medicine.
Hospitals and clinics at all levels have been built throughout the country and a household doctor system has been established in good order from Pyongyang to remote mountain villages and lots of measures have been taken to protect the health of people.
In socialist Korea, the issue of public health is discussed before all other affairs and no industry is allowed to be built no matter how hugely lucrative it might be, if it is harmful to working people’s health.
Therefore, for the Korean people, “60 is the prime of life and 90 is the first step to old age” is not their desire but a reality.
