Ri Son, resident in Neighbourhood Unit No. 4 in Mangyongdae-dong, Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, is called a “bee grandpa” or “master of bee-keeping” by neighbours.
He, possessed of profound knowledge of bee-keeping, has contributed to developing the country’s bee-farming by writing several books, including “Mysterious Bee Products”, “Longevity and Honey” and “Longevity and Propolis”.
After retiring ten years ago, he began to be interested in bee-keeping. At that time, he had no particular relationship with bees.
He came to know the mysterious effects of honey on several occasions. He wanted to do something good for the country.
He learned bee-keeping techniques one by one, reading many sci-tech magazines. He raised bees and observed them in detail in order to know how honey and such bee products as royal jelly, propolis, bee pollen, bee toxin, bee larva and beeswax are good to the health.
In the course of this, he realized that bee products are valuable wealth obtained from nature, natural tonic for longevity and mysterious medicine for retarding the aging.
Based on his experience, he wrote several books on the main ingredients and effects of bee products, methods of making medicines and their usage, and prevention and treatment of diseases. Besides, he developed a honey identification tool and saccharimeter in close contact with experts, which enjoy popularity among bee-keeping units for their high precision.
He produces over 20 kinds of honey effective in the treatment of diseases, including linden and toothache tree honey, and their output increases year after year.
He has sent honey to war veterans and honoured disabled soldiers on the occasion of holidays and major anniversaries.
Ri Son is an honoured disabled soldier who merits preferential treatment in society. But he took the road to repay the benefits of the country.
So, people call him a true man.
