One September day in Juche 65 (1976), President Kim Il Sung visited the then Sinhung-ri in Yonthan County, North Hwanghae Province.
After giving instructions related to farming, he asked the officials accompanying him, pointing at a building, what was that for.
One answered that it was a building set up by the local officials so that he could have a rest during his field guidance tour.
Expressing thanks to them, he said he liked best to go among the people.
After a while, pointing at a village in a valley near a vast corn field, he asked how the children of the village went to school.
An official answered that they went to the then Sinhung Senior Middle School 2.5 km away from the village.
After feasting his eyes on the seat of Sinhung-ri, he said that it would be alright for students of middle school age but it was too far for those of primary school age. Then he instructed that the building set up for him should be turned into a branch school of the senior middle school so that students of primary school age could study there.
In this way, the Undok Branch School of Sinhung Senior Middle School came into being.
