“Can you give first aid to someone as soon as possible after they have been hurt in an accident or suddenly become ill?” Maybe many people would find it difficult to say yes to this question with confidence. It is because they lack in first aid knowledge.
First aid, an emergency treatment for those who have become ill or been hurt, plays an important role in saving those in crisis. Even though there is no qualified medical worker on the scene, their lives can be saved if the people on the scene or other victims have the basic knowledge in first aid.
Proceeding from this, the second Saturday of September every year was designated as World First Aid Day, and marking this day many countries and organizations conduct activities for disseminating first aid knowledge. First aid has long been part of major activities of the International Movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent.
This year’s theme of World First Aid Day is “Lifelong First Aid Learning.” On the occasion of the day the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies emphasized that first aid education should be given to everyone and everywhere and that people should cherish confidence that they can surely save others’ lives while learning first aid and improving their practical abilities.
The Red Cross Society of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has achieved considerable success in disseminating first aid knowledge. This year it organized a short course for its staff on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, bandage wrapping, rehabilitation posture, patient transport and other first aid knowledge for various emergencies.
