Korean officials visit Chinese embassy to mourn death of Jiang Zemin

Officials of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly, the DPRK Cabinet, armed forces organs, ministries and national agencies visited the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang on December 2 to mourn the death of Jiang Zemin, former general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People’s Republic of China.

Present there were Ri Il Hwan, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kang Yun Sok, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim Song Ryong, vice-premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Mun Song Hyok, deputy department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, Lieutenant General Kim Min Sop, vice-minister of National Defence, Pak Myong Ho, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Kim In Chol, vice-minister of Public Security, Pak Kyong Il, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and Hong Kum Chol, vice-chairman of the Pyongyang Municipal People’s Committee.

A wreath in the joint name of the Central Committee of the WPK, the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly and the DPRK Cabinet was laid in front of the photo of the late Jiang Zemin.

Also placed there were wreaths in the name of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the Pyongyang Municipal People’s Committee.

Written on the ribbons of the wreaths were the letters reading, “In memory of the late Jiang Zemin”.

The participants paid a silent tribute to the memory of Jiang Zemin who had contributed to socialist construction of China and the development of the traditional DPRK-China friendship.

Ri Il Hwan made an entry in a book of condolence.
