The Pyongyang Vegetable Science Institute is intensifying researches to expand and introduce different kinds of tasty and highly nutritious vegetables and increase their production.
The institute has set a goal to breed more vegetables of new varieties and is forcefully pushing ahead with the research for its attainment.
Section Chief Ma Yong Min says:
"We still have a lot of things to do. We are working harder than ever before to increase the varieties of vegetables since many greenhouses have been built in all parts of the country and the people's demand for them gets diverse."
Last year, researchers of the institute bred high-yield varieties of bok choy with high mass per head and high productivity and varieties of functional vegetables with high edible and medicinal value and registered them as state varieties. They also studied and completed more than 10 new cultivation techniques and methods including the automatic nutrient solution sprinkling control device and introduced them into production units.
They are now directing big efforts to breeding the varieties giving high and stable yield even in the unfavourable conditions and the high-yield varieties conducive to putting the greenhouse vegetable production on an intensive footing.
They are working hard to breed new functional vegetables with high nutritive value, good taste and different shapes, colours and storing methods.
They are striving to breed new varieties of vegetables which can make a contribution to improving the diet and health of the people. Their efforts will bear a good fruit.
