In July Juche 83 (1994), triplets were born in a mountainous village in Kimhwa County, Kangwon Province. But they, the lightest-weighing third one in particular, were in bad conditions. Villagers worried whether the babies could survive because theirs was an out-of-the-way mountainous village. As the days were helplessly passing by with the roads cut by heavy rains, the medical workers’ anxiety over the triplets grew stronger.
To make matters worse, the sad news of President Kim Il Sung’s death reached the village. The doctors looking after the incubators mourned bitterly and the mother fainted. It seemed that the existence of the triplets was forgotten.
During the days when the whole country was shedding tears of blood, the great leader Comrade Kim Jong Il was informed that triplets had been born in Kimhwa County. Although he was suffering more than anybody else from the President’s death, he took measures of organizing a medical team and dispatching a plane to save the triplets, saying that the triplets must be taken to the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital by plane and saved without fail. Thanks to his warm care the triplets were saved, and left the hospital 155 days later.
