An intercontinental ballistic missile launching drill was staged on the afternoon of February 18.
The General Bureau of Missiles guided the drill. Mobilized for the drill was the First Red Flag Hero Company with rich launching experiences of the intercontinental ballistic missile operation units.
The drill was suddenly organized without a prearranged plan according to the emergency firepower combat standby directive issued early in the morning of February 18 and the written order of the Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea given at 8 a.m. that day.
The written order referred to mobilizing the First Red Flag Hero Company under the General Bureau of Missiles and using the intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-15" for the drill, and reconfirming and verifying the dependability of the weapon system, promoting the combat readiness of the nuclear forces of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and proving the conviction of and guarantee for the correct mobility, reactivity, reliability, effectiveness and combat capability of the components of the state nuclear deterrent through the sudden surprise launching drill. The order carried an autograph signature of Comrade Kim Jong Un.
Given the honourable combat order, the First Red Flag Hero Company vertically launched the intercontinental ballistic missile "Hwasongpho-15" by the maximum range system at the Pyongyang International Airport on the afternoon of February 18.
The missile climbed up to 5,768.5 kilometres, flew the distance of 989 kilometres for 4,015 seconds, exactly hit the target waters of the open sea over the East Sea of Korea and got an excellent mark.
The Central Military Commission of the WPK highly estimated the actual war capacity of the intercontinental ballistic missile units with mobile and powerful counterattacking preparedness.
It issued a directive to all missile units assigned for the strategic tasks to thoroughly maintain the strengthened combat readiness to cope with the prevailing military situation on the Korean peninsula.
