Non-standing national space sci-tech commission holds regular meeting

The non-standing national commission of space science and technology held a regular meeting at Kim Il Sung University on March 23.

Pak Thae Song, chairman of the commission who is also secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, presided over the meeting.

The event was attended by members of the commission and relevant officials of the National Aerospace Development Administration, the State Commission of Science and Technology, the Education Commission, the State Academy of Sciences, universities and scientific research institutions.

It reviewed the performance of research tasks of universities and scientific research institutions for last year and the first quarter of this year and assignments of the members of the commission and seriously discussed achievements and deviations made in the work and ways to overcome them.

Assignments to be carried out in the second quarter of this year were given to the commission members.

The meeting called for carrying out research tasks issued this year by the appointed date without condition and stressed the need to direct efforts into research on the core technology for developing artificial earth satellite and space sci-tech research tasks related to agricultural production, meteorological observation, prospecting of resources, monitoring of such natural disasters as typhoon, flood and tidal waves and the development of a Korean-style communication system.

The non-standing national commission of space science and technology, which was organized according to a state measure to bring about a radical turn in space development by more positively involving civilian universities and scientific research institutions in research into space science and technology, is to meet quarterly for a regular meeting.
