In late February, a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of over 4 000 flats in a new street in the Sopho area in the capital city of Pyongyang was splendidly held in the presence of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .

The DPRK set a goal to build 10 000 flats every year in Pyongyang, 50 000 in total during the five-year plan period for the national economic development (2021-2025), and is now making efforts to implement it. The Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea held at the end of last year decided to build a new unique street of more than 4 000 flats at the northern gateway to the capital city of Pyongyang, in addition to the construction of 10 000 flats in the city for 2023, and entrusted the Socialist Patriotic Youth League and Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade with the whole of the project.

This reflected the WPK’s intention to help young people of the new generation to demonstrate once again the indomitable mettle unique to the Korean youth in the capital city of Pyongyang.

According to data, no sooner had the WPK called on them, than as many as 100 000 young people across the country volunteered to help build the capital city.

In retrospect, young people have performed feats to be eternally recorded in the country’s history by giving full play to the mettle and valour of the youth in the grim annals of the Korean revolution. That is why many monumental structures in different parts of the country were named after the word “youth” and are being handed down to posterity.

Over the past decade, the country has witnessed remarkable signal progress in the construction of monumental structures. The Sci-Tech Complex, Mirae Scientists Street, Ryomyong Street, Songhwa Street, large-scale greenhouse farms in Ryonpho and Jungphyong areas, the model mountainous city of Samjiyon, dwelling houses built in the countryside in the new era of rural development and other structures are associated with the feats performed by young builders.

Kim Jong Un , general secretary of the WPK, in his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for a new street in the Sopho area of Pyongyang, said: The Party’s intention is to help our young people to demonstrate more powerfully at the grand construction site in the capital city the heroic spirit and patriotic devotion unique to the Korean youth and to prepare them better as successors to the revolution, the reserves of the Workers’ Party of Korea and able builders of socialism. The Party pays particularly close attention to the construction of the new street. This is partly because the completion of this street is of great significance, but more importantly because it is highly meaningful and precious in that the 100 000-strong contingent of young people who have come from every part of the country will be tempered in a revolutionary manner and grow up in the course of the work.

Through the project, young people will possess great ideals of the future, ambitions, lofty dreams, courage and daring and, after returning to their home towns and villages, bring about fresh change with the mode of struggle and approach to creation they have acquired in the capital city construction.

Upholding the slogans “For the victory of our cause!” and “For our capital city of Pyongyang!” they are now working day by day fresh miracles and innovations at the site of building the new street in the Sopho area in Pyongyang.

Though they lack experience and skills and they are unaccustomed to hard work as they are different in their occupations and ages, they are making collective innovations in carrying out the project, learning from and assisting one another with a single mind and will.
