Now the Korean people are striving to hasten the comprehensive development of socialism true to the general line of socialist and communist construction set forth by the Workers’ Party of Korea.

In April 1982 the WPK advanced the line of vigorously pushing ahead with the three revolutions–ideological, technological and cultural–while strengthening the people’s government and steadily enhancing its functions and role.

Entering the 1980s the Korean people turned out in the struggle to attain the grand goal of socialist construction set forth by the Sixth Congress of the WPK. However, the imperialists grew more tenacious in their moves to bring down socialism and in some countries, tragic situation was created in which the theory of building socialist power was distorted and the function of socialist power was weakened.

The subjective and objective conditions and situation of the Korean revolution urgently demanded that social relations be further developed and brought to perfection as befitting the appearance of a socialist state by strengthening the Party’s guidance over the people’s government so as to enhance its functions and role and by stepping up technological and cultural revolutions while giving definite precedence to ideological revolution.

Proceeding from such requirement of the times, President Kim Il Sung , in his policy speech delivered at the Joint Meeting of the Central Committee of the WPK and the Supreme People’s Assembly of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in April 14, 1982, put it forward as the general line of building socialism and communism to strengthen the people’s government and enhance its functions and role while carrying out ideological, technological and cultural revolutions.

The line clearly elucidates the fundamental guidelines to be adhered to in the whole course of building socialism and communism, the forms and contents of the revolution for building socialism and communism and the features of the future communist society.

The President clarified the need to continuously hold fast to the general line of building socialism and communism in his several works, including the report at the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea in September 1988.

In the 1980s when the line was set forth, the people’s government was further consolidated and the Korean people ushered in a great heyday in the era of the Workers’ Party by creating the speed of the 1980s under the banner of the three revolutions.

Chairman Kim Jong Il laid a solid foundation for building a prosperous country by upholding this line as an immortal banner.

The general line of building socialism and communism is now being firmly carried forward by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , adding fuel to the Korean people’s efforts to accomplish the cause of socialism.
