A memorial service was held solemnly at the April 25 House of Culture on May 19 to commemorate the first anniversary of the demise of Hyon Chol Hae who was a prominent political and military activist of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the state and a veteran of the armed forces organ of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, Jo Yong Won, Choe Ryong Hae and Ri Pyong Chol, members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee, Choe Son Hui, minister of Foreign Affairs, Kang Sun Nam, minister of National Defence, and other senior Party, government and military officials, teaching staff and students of military schools at all levels and revolutionary schools, together with the bereaved family members.

The participants paid a silent tribute to the memory of Hyon Chol Hae who had devoted his all to the victorious advance of the Juche cause shining with the lineage of Paektu with single-minded loyalty to the Party and the leaders and the spirit of devoted service to the country and the people throughout his life.

Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, delivered a memorial address.

He said that the sorrow of bidding farewell to Hyon Chol Hae, which left an indelible loss in the history of the Korean revolution, still lingers in the hearts of all the people and service personnel of the People’s Army. He referred to the brilliant life of the martyr who had led and encouraged the Korean people as a model of loyalist, steadfast revolutionary and genuine human in the forefront of the revolution advancing towards a new victory, always being together with the Korean people in their struggle and life for the past one year.

He said that the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , valuing most the genuine revolutionary traits and humanity of Hyon Chol Hae who had remained true to the leaders, the revolution and his duty all his life, showed the noble example of the harmonious whole of the leader and soldier with boundless love and obligation.

Reverently remembering Hyon Chol Hae, a loyal elder who had enjoyed the highest honour and happiness as a soldier and Korean revolutionary under the warm care of Kim Jong Un , the speaker stressed that his noble life and distinguished feats would be immortal as they were filled with legendary stories about love, trust, loyalty and repayment between the leader and soldiers.

He noted that the cause inheriting the victorious course under the leadership of the great WPK requires the younger generations to succeed the soul and spirit of the loyalists of the preceding generations and that all the people and service personnel should leave the trace of worthwhile life in the struggle for accomplishing the revolutionary cause of Juche as Hyon Chol Hae had done.

He paid high tribute to the noble life of Hyon Chol Hae, calling for waging a dynamic struggle for the accomplishment of the cause of building the Korean-style socialist power led by Kim Jong Un and for the rosy future of the powerful country by carrying forward the batons of idea, faith, loyalty and patriotism of the revolutionary martyrs.
