Serious crisis caused by climate change

Today, humankind is suffering from calamitous abnormal climate phenomena including flood and landslide by heavy rain, high temperature, heat wave, drought, forest fire, destructive typhoon and earthquake.

According to a recent report on global warming published by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, if a brake is not put on global warming, the width of temperature rise will exceed 1.5℃ by the first half of the 2030s and reach 3.2℃ in the late 21st century.

Expressing a strong sense of crisis over the present situation of global warming, the report noted that to attain the goal (with the width of temperature rise less than 1.5℃) related to the reduction of greenhouse gases by 2030, it is necessary to cut their emissions by 43% by 2030 and 60% by 2035 as compared with 2019.

The world public opinion expressed concern that if global warming is neglected like today, it will frequently cause natural disasters such as flood and drought and greatly affect ecosystem.

In many countries and regions there have occurred in succession various natural disasters owing to abnormal climate phenomena, entailing catastrophic damage.

Last winter, the US suffered tremendous damage caused by unexpected winter storm.

San Francisco was hit by a record-breaking rainstorm causing deaths and flood and landslide to paralyze the traffic.

The Los Angeles Times reported that different regions of California suffered serious damage from flood and landslide caused by gales and heavy rain from late December last year to January 10 this year.

Similar abnormal climate phenomena occurred in Asia, Europe, Africa and other parts of the world.

In northern India, at least 125 people died and hundreds suffered from heart disease owing to severe cold from January 1 to 9 this year.

Different regions of Siberia, Russia, were affected by biting cold with sharp drops in temperature from January 8.

Vladivostok of Russia’s Primorsky witnessed the highest temperature meteorological observation had ever recorded between January 11 and 13 and the night temperature there dropped by 17℃ in a moment on January 14 and by 20℃ in two days.

On the contrary, unprecedented high temperatures last in France.

According to data available, the temperature reached more than 10℃ in the country for 20 consecutive days from late December last year to early January this year.

Saying that last year was recorded as the hottest year since 1900, the meteorological authorities of the country asserted that abnormal climate change does huge damage to agricultural production.

In the Horn of Africa, tens of millions of people are faced with hunger and poverty owing to long-term drought and residents in many areas of the middle part are experiencing terrible disasters, including food crisis and malnutrition, due to the worst flood which hit the areas in several years.

Experts attribute such disasters to global warming and assert that dramatic abnormal climate phenomena will continue throughout the world in the future.

All countries in the world will have to take all necessary measures, including reduction of greenhouse gases, in order to check global warming.
