The construction of the modern Kangdong Greenhouse Farm is being pushed ahead for the citizens of Pyongyang.

This is the third project in the large-scale greenhouse farm construction programme which has been stepped up in the DPRK in recent years.

In particular, it is said that the new farm is higher than the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm which was inaugurated last year in terms of intelligence and intensive level, leading it by one generation.

The sufficient supply of fresh vegetables to the people all the year round is a top priority task the Workers’ Party of Korea has always paid attention to and intended to carry out in a few years.

To this end, many greenhouse vegetable production bases have been built throughout the country and splendid greenhouses were constructed one after another in North and South Hamgyong provinces in the northern areas of the country, which had failed to gather good vegetable harvest due to unfavourable climatic conditions since olden times.

The Jungphyong Greenhouse Farm was built in North Hamgyong Province consisting of 320 blocks of modern vegetable greenhouses in a total area of 200 hectares and the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm was constructed in South Hamgyong Province with over 850 blocks of modern, intensive and industrialized hydroponic and soil greenhouses covering 280 hectares. The “shortage of vegetables” has now become an old story in the region.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un who attended the inauguration ceremony of the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm in October last year stressed the need to build a large-scale greenhouse farm like the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm in all provinces to ensure a plentiful supply of vegetables to the people under the natural climatic conditions of the country.

The WPK intends to build greenhouse farms, which are advanced in the light of production area and capacity and automation level, across the country so that people can benefit from them as early as possible and provide another base for the creation of rural civilization. Today, its plan is being translated into reality in the Kangdong area of the capital city.

Along with the progress of the construction of large-scale greenhouse farms, efforts are being made to drastically improve the scientific, intensive and modernization level of greenhouse vegetable farming at all production units across the country.

Newly-built greenhouse farms positively explore and introduce the ways to markedly increase output while reducing costs by perfecting the intelligent integrated manufacturing system so as to increase the optimization level of production and introducing advanced cultivation techniques, methods and equipment including the production method applying the cylindrical vegetable cultivation device, the multilayer cultivation method and the method of supplementing lights of different colours which promote the growth of crops.

Efforts are directed to breeding and widely introducing leaf, fruit and functional vegetable seeds which meet the ever-refined taste of the people and whose nutritive, curative and preventive effects are pronounced.

As a result, delicious and fresh vegetables are produced to be supplied to the people.
