The Pyongyang Fish Farming Management Bureau and all pedigree fish farms and cage-net fish farms in Pyongyang are pushing ahead with various works fit for springtime.
Now is the spawning season for fishes.
Golden carp, carp and other fishes spawn in the Taedong, Pothong and other rivers in the capital city.
The survival rate of fries in the rivers is very low as they are natural water areas.
To cope with it, the management bureau has made and put the artificial substrate for collecting the eggs in the rivers to increase the actual spawning rate.
The Taedonggang Fish Farming and Seed Fish Production and Supply Centre, Tudan Youth Pedigree Fish Farm, Junggu Cage-net Fish Farm and many other similar farms made such substrates with adhesive materials on the basis of the past experience and put them in the water areas where fishes gather a lot.
They also spread the substrates in places favourable for laying eggs and established observation and protection systems on relevant water areas to raise the actual rate of spawning.
Meanwhile, the management bureau is making the preparations for increasing the production of fries to stock the rivers with in spring.
Pedigree fish farms secured enough mother fishes from natural water areas to increase the production of fries like those of carp, silver carp and others.
They distribute fishes in fish ponds according to their species and stages of growth and meet exactly the scientific and technical requirements related to ensuring water temperature and oxygen supply.
They also work for sharing and transmission of successes and experiences made in solving feed problem, one of the main problems in developing fish farming.
Fries grown healthily are released in large numbers in Taedong and Pothong rivers.
