A meeting of children with disabilities to commemorate International Children’s Day took place at the gym of extracurricular juvenile sports school in Taedonggang District, Pyongyang, on June 1.
It was attended by the chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled, officials concerned, children with disabilities, children and teachers of Tongmun Kindergarten No. 2 in the district and their parents.
Song Hyang Chun, director of the Korea Rehabilitation Centre for Children with Disabilities, made a speech followed by an artistic performance and sports and amusement games by children with disabilities and kindergarten children.
The children fully displayed their happiness and talents in the performance.
Those with disabilities flaunted their artistic skills through male ensemble and dance, chorus with drum, poem reciting and singing.
The seven-year-old girl and boy Yun Ye Jong and Hong Ki Ryong with hearing disabilities performed special movements in whirling rings, winning applause from the audience.
The sports and amusement games were more spectacular.
The games between two teams formed by mixing normal and disabled children grew more exciting with the passage of time.
They included throwing the basketball in the net, catching and bringing fish, leg-tied race and tug of war and both the players and rooters were filled with joy and optimism.
The meeting delighted the children with disabilities, inspiring them with greater confidence that “I can do” and “We won”, and the teachers and parents overflowed with joy.
