The natural reserve research team of the Biodiversity Institute under the State Academy of Sciences made investigation into the major migratory bird reserves.
It started to investigate the distribution of the migratory birds during their spring migration in the reserves on the east and west coasts from March.
The investigation was made in the Mundok Migratory Bird Reserve, an internationally important swamp (Ramsar Site), the Kumya Migratory Bird Reserve registered as the Network Site of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, and the Sindo, Kwangpho and Tongjongho Migratory Birth Reserves, the national ones.
During the investigation, more than 125,000 water birds of nearly 80 kinds were observed, of which over 4,000 global endangered species of over 10 kinds including stork and Manchurian crane were spotted.
Also confirmed was more than one percent of snipe in global or regional number along with bean goose and coot.
The recent investigation proved that five migratory bird reserves are still playing an important role in protecting the water birds living in the whole world as well as Korea.
