According to an article carried by the Gulf News newspaper of the United Arab Emirates on September 14, 470 large-scale shooting cases occurred in the US between January and August this year and more than 25 000 Americans were killed by gun violence.
Saying that 22 children under 17 are shot dead on a daily average in the US, it reported that there is no guarantee of safe return of children when their parents send them to school. Describing the US as a country where injustice prevails over justice, it noted it is impossible to realize any dream in the place where murder is rampant.
For Americans, firearm culture is their right guaranteed by their constitution and it is too deeply penetrated into their daily lives, it said. That’s why, it added, they will never change their ingrained way of life even if children are shot dead every day.
Democratic senator Christopher Murphy deplored through CNN that the US is the only country in the world where cranks try to exorcise evil spirits through massive killing.
Gun violence has been a deadly problem creating social divide in the US for a long time.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, gun-related deaths have been on the increase since 2004 and such death toll reached a new record high of 48 830 in 2021.
