I Will Be a True Public Health Worker Restoring Sight to People

Ryu Un Hui, First Deputy Director of the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital   A Korean saying goes that the eye is the pearl of the face. It means that nothing is more valuable than the eye for a man.

Whenever I see the people leave the Ryugyong General  Ophthalmic Hospital with pleasure, saying they can see clearly now, unforgettable happenings come across my mind.

I had the honour of meeting the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un on October 17, Juche 105(2016) before the opening of our newly-built hospital.

Still vivid in my eyes is the benevolent image of Kim Jong Un who beamed all over his face, saying that building a modern general ophthalmic hospital for the people was what he had long planned and wanted to do and that his another desire for the people has come true.

Kim Jong Un had proposed building the general ophthalmic hospital and meticulously led it to be built wonderfully, guiding its blueprints on several occasions as well as its location and scale.

That day, he went round different places of the hospital in detail, including the outpatient and inpatient wards. He said with great satisfaction that the hospital had been designed well and built on the highest level and that it is a perfect medical service centre based on the good agreement between the designing, building and running units. And he appreciated what I had done for the construction of the hospital.

The neat resting hall, atrium and medical equipment and fixtures as well as treatment rooms and sickrooms are all associated with his devoted efforts to provide the Korean people with the best hospital.

Before leaving the hospital that day, Kim Jong Un earnestly said: I was told that the people are eagerly waiting for the day when the Ryugyong General Ophthalmic Hospital will open. Make full preparations for running the hospital lest there should be any shortcomings. Hold its opening ceremony in late October and start services on November 1.

Listening to his instructions consistent with the love for the people that day, I deeply felt once again that only people are kept in his mind.

After his visit, I succeeded in establishing the vitreous retina operation method for curing incurable eye diseases of the world in the wake of repeated failures and researches. As a result, I could restore sight to many people.

Though I did what I should do as a public health worker, I was selected as a Meritorious Person ofSocialist Patriotism and elected a deputy to the Pyongyang City People's Assembly.

Still ringing in my ears is the tender voice of Kim Jong Un who visited our hospital and said it is really an important work to protect the precious eyes of the people.

Keeping his lofty intention deep in my heart, I will remain a true public health worker restoring sight to people till the last moment of my life.
