China’s Xinhua News Agency published the following article on October 25 exposing the actual environment of an “exemplary human rights state” through gun-related crimes. It carries a report about a large-scale shooting which happened in Lewiston, Maine of the U.S. that left 18 dead and 13 injured.
The U.S. is becoming a “citadel” of shooting incidents, frequently taking away innocent lives.
A political system which suppresses each other, a political environment which is becoming more and more polarized with each passing day, powerful interest groups and growing social conflict; these are the reasons why gun-related violence has become a chronic disease and a never-ending nightmare in U.S. society.
Due to its history of colonial plunder, gun culture is deeply rooted in the U.S.
Guns are an issue and the source of anxiety across society in the U.S. The gun issue is an inevitable result born from many social problems such as disparity in wealth, racism, endless violence and rising crime rates in cities.
Despite the fact that this trend in guns is now causing deadly consequences, neither the Democratic nor the Republican parties are working to find solutions over this matter.
Instead, they employ the issue of gun violence as a means to attack each other. And the legislative bill on restricting guns is merely a subject of useless dispute.
People are asking how a country which cannot even guarantee the most basic rights to life can call itself the world’s “beacon of human rights”.
Xinhua ended its article by sharply criticizing the U.S. and its politicians; the necessity of gun restrictions become a bigger matter of debate each time a shooting incident takes place in U.S. society, however, politicians continue to indulge themselves in empty talks even at this moment, and thus, this vicious infinite cycle continues where shootings break out again and again.
