The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a dignified socialist state, a power of independence which advances invariably along the road of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence upholding the banner of Juche.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said.

“The Juche character is the nature of socialism, and independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the economy and self-reliance in national defence are the road to achieving the eternal victory and prosperity of socialism of our style.”

With what stand and principle one develops politics, the economy and military affairs is a core problem that decides rise and fall of a country and nation. It is also a problem that thinkers and politicians of all times and places took pains to solve in various ways but failed to find an answer.

The principled stand of the Workers’ Party of Korea and the government of the Republic toward the problem is invariable and steadfast. The stand is that independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the economy and self-reliance in national defence guarantee genuine dignity and prosperity of the country and nation.

The ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence, the immutable guide of the DPRK, are the most just ones that are based on the most scientific principle, correspond to the developing change of the present times, and whose vitality is fully proved through the development history of the Republic.

The ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence, the immutable guide of the DPRK, are the just ones based on the principle of independence clarified by the Juche idea.

The Juche idea is a revolutionary ideology whose core is independence.

It defines independence, an attribute to live and develop independently as master of the world and one’s own destiny, as the intrinsic attribute which is the life and soul of man, the social being.

As it is the first attribute of man, independence is the first source that guarantees existence of a nation. Independence can be said to be a basic condition for existence that decides the destiny of a large group that forms a nation as well as the destiny of individuals. In other words, independence is life and soul of man and at the same time life and soul of a country and nation.

Truth is simple but evokes a big sympathy among all people. This is its characteristic.

The philosophical explanation, that independence is the essential attribute and life of man and the life and soul of a country and nation, reflects the unanimous desire of all people, countries and nations on the globe to live freely without being subordinated and restricted by others.

The principles of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence consistently held fast to by the DPRK require to thoroughly apply the independent principle, clarified by the Juche idea, in the Party and state activities.

Independence in politics means to enforce the politics that safeguards national independence and sovereignty of one’s people, defends their interests and is relied on their strength. Self-sufficiency in the economy means to build an economy which is free from dependence on others and which stands on its own feet, an economy which serves one’s own people and develops on the strength of resources of one’s own country and by the efforts of one’s own people. Self-reliance in national defence means to defend its country by one’s own strength.

Independence in politics, self-sufficiency in the economy and self-reliance in national defence are inseparably related with each other, and therefore, independence, the life and soul of a country and nation, can not be defended faithfully if even one of the three is not realized.

Like this, the ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence are just as they clarify the way to defend independence of a country and nation in all fields of politics, the economy and national defence starting from the independent principle.

The ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence, the immutable guide of the DPRK, are also the just ones that totally fit the unanimous desire and will of all countries and nations who aspire after independent development even under the situation in which the imperialist dictatorship and arbitrariness is rampant.

As in the last century, so in the 21st century the world has changed a lot, but the main theme of the struggle being waged ceaselessly in the international arena is always whether it is independence or subordination.

In the present international arena there is serious confrontation and struggle between the progressive people who are to defend independence and dignity of their countries and nations and the imperialist reactionary forces who engage only in aggression and war, high-handedness and arbitrariness.

The imperialists persist in military threat and blackmail and economic infiltration against sovereign countries with a nuclear weapon in one hand and money in other to realize their hegemony.

Owing to the imperialists who make desperate attempts to maintain their hegemonic position, many people left their countries and become immigrants because they have no true place to live in although their countries are big in territory, and lead a miserable life in poverty although they have rich natural resources.

With passage of time hostility and hatred toward imperialism get stronger in the countries which suffer from war and dispute caused by the imperialists and from their aftereffects.

The situation is grave, but it is a mere vortex of history temporarily created in the the course of advancing towards a new independent world.

At present, the people’s aspiration and desire to live independently are getting stronger, and trend of the times toward the road of independence cannot checked.

Imperialists’ scheme to shackle all countries to neo-colonialist system of domination by relying on superiority of aggressive military and economic strength, reckless interference and excerise of power is opposed and rejected by the countries and people who aspire after independence.

Many countries resolutely struggle against dominating position and monopoly of imperialist powers while enhancing their right to speak and position in the international arena.

Developing countries make their relations close with each other and, at the same time, wage a struggle to prevent dominationist tentacles which are being stretched to their inside and surroundings.

They are active to check the imperialist interference independently or in union.

Most developing countries reject predatory economic order and financial system and aspire after a new one.

This emphasizes the truth that independence becomes trend of the times that can not be checked no matter how outrageous the imperialist high-handedness and arbitrariness may be and independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence are the only way for existence of a nation and prosperity of a country.

The ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence, the immutable guide of the DPRK, have fully proved its validity through practice of the Korean revolution.

Until the mid-1940s, Korea was a backward colonial and feudal society, a weak and small country which had been deprived of its national rights and name.

After September 9, 1948 when it was founded, the DPRK put an end to the history of flunkeysm and submission and has constantly advanced along the road of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence.

Saying that when he turns to flunkeyism a person becomes an idiot, when a nation takes to flunkeyism it falls into ruin, and when a party acquires flunkeyism it makes a muddle of revolution and construction, President Kim Il Sung adhered steadily to the principles of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence since the beginning of the state building.

The ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence were invariably held fast to by Chairman Kim Jong Il even in the most ardous period of our revolution.

From the beginning of its founding, our Republic was listed in names of the countries hostile to the imperialists and had to build socialism under unprecedented difficulties and their threat. But from that time up to the present our Republic has firmly defended its rights to independence, existence and development as it has advanced without any hesitations along the road of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence.

Our Republic greets a golden age that is dignified with independence, prosperous with self-sufficiency and guaranteed by self-defence through generations as it has the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un in its van.

Today our Republic accelerates the building of an economic power by its own strength while demonstrating before the world the dignity and glory of a political and military power, and this is a brilliant victory of the revolutionary line, that is, the ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence.

The DPRK will apply thoroughly the ideas of independence, self-sufficiency and self-defence, the immutable guide of the Korean revolution, to build a powerful socialist country with sure by dint of its might under the leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
