The Pyongyang municipal industrial design exhibition, which began on February 7 in celebration of the February holiday, is going on, attracting growing interest of the citizens.

"In February every year, industrial design exhibitions are held in all provinces to mark the birthday of Chairman Kim Jong Il. This is an important occasion in increasing public interest in industrial design and contributing to the development of the country’s economy and improvement of the people’s living standards," said Pae Kyong Nam, director of the Pyongyang municipal industrial design bureau.

On display in the current exhibition are more than 300 designs personally guided by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and some 800 designs, models, samples and products created by industrial design experts and fans and students.

Designs of construction machines draw particular attention of visitors.

The designs of hydraulic excavators, shovels and others with novel ideas, unique shapes and high utility reflect the intention of the creators to contribute to fulfilling the long-cherished desire of the Workers' Party of Korea to promote the people's well-being including the construction of modern regional-industry factories and dwelling houses, which is now dynamically pushed forward by the state.

Eye-catching are the designs of new-type tractors, threshers, wheat harvesters and other farm machines of various kinds produced to suit the rural conditions.

Interior and green architecture designs and those of new-type double-decker buses which ensure formative artistic representation with new ideas and original creative techniques are so developed as to provide the people with beautiful and civilized living conditions.

Also noticeable are ornamental designs of green environment. Among them are those for shaping trees, the designs of gateposts of children's park depicting unique landscapes and those of benches of the park in the shape of tree branches.

The designs of various kinds of light shoes in different colours and shapes that suit the burgeoning spring season, bags, household goods and cosmetics are popular for their organic combination of practical and aesthetic aspects.

In particular, the designs of children's bags in diverse shapes and colours reflect their minds so well that they want to carry such bags.

Designs of various kinds of elegant and beautiful clothes show the new development stage of costume art.

Among the exhibits are seen the designs of trademarks, packages, advertisements, signboards and calligraphic styles that clearly express conciseness, concentration and symbolism.

Products of the Pyongyang Cornstarch Factory, Pyongyang Children's Foodstuff Factory, Pyongyang Hosiery Factory, Songyo Knitwear Factory and others in the city made by introducing various designs are on sale at the exhibition.

Young "industrial designers" also presented ingenious inventions to the current exhibition.

Ri Ju Chon, a student at Kaeson Senior Middle School in Moranbong District, presented a model "New looks of cultured rural community" depicting the new appearance of the rural villages which will be spruced up more splendidly in the future, inspired by the great changes taking place in urban and rural communities every year.

And the designs of a table-lamp in the shape of a flowerpot and a paper bag made of waste paper and others show unusual and laudable intentions of the students.

"Through the exhibition, I have come to know better about the dreams and ideals of our people growing bigger day by day and our beautiful life to be brought earlier," said Rim Kyong Hye, head of the Moranbong Industrial Design Distribution Agency.

The exhibition will continue till March 7.
