The Korean Central News Agency on March 16 released a detailed report on the successful construction of the Kangdong Greenhouse Complex as the world's leading vegetable producer.

The report said that the soldier-builders successfully completed the construction of the complex, whose building scale and production capacity are nearly twice as big as those of the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm, and whose intensive, optimum and intelligent levels have been remarkably enhanced, in just one year after the start of the construction, and went on:

The completion of a modern and ideal greenhouse town, a farming town, has made it possible to explore a new domain and sphere in the production of greenhouse vegetables and achieve another desire of the Workers’ Party of Korea which put it forward to supply fresh vegetables affluently to the people all the year round as an important matter to be settled in the coming years.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un made sure that the construction of a large greenhouse farm in the area of Kangdong was decided as an important construction task at the Sixth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and committed the soldiers of the Korean People’s Army to the construction site.

He indicated the strategy and ways for completing the project in the shorted possible time, ranging from site selection to the formation of construction forces and the supply of materials, and led its implementation.

He gave scores of rounds of instructions with regard to the construction of the advanced greenhouse complex including the introduction of circular and multi-storey vegetable cultivation devices and the establishment of intelligent integrated manufacturing system and selected the latest agricultural sci-tech documents suitable for intensifying the greenhouse vegetable production to send down them. The master plan for the construction of the complex, bird's-eye view and miniatures he guided total more than 300 and technical designs amount to 3 280 pieces.

The trust of him, who said that the service personnel of the units who were involved in the construction should support the will of our Party most faithfully and surely while starting its project, boosted the passion and fighting spirit of soldier-builders.

The construction started on February 15 2023.

The greenhouse construction in the Kangdong area was a gigantic creation project which required the building of different shapes of dwelling houses of more than 1 050 blocks of apartment houses with a total floor space of nearly 1.2 million cubic metres in an area of over 260 hectares.

The sky-high spirit peculiar to the People's Army brought about miracles and feats from the beginning of construction.

A road project in the dozens of kilometre-long section, which was believed to take several months, was rounded off in only 20 days and thus the transport road was opened. A thousands of metre-long water course was removed as a whole, high and low hill areas transformed into a plain and wide stretches of marshland realigned at a go and thereby a bright vista for pushing the greenhouse construction in real earnest was opened.

The laying of foundations of hundreds of greenhouse blocks was completed earlier than schedule and difficult and huge tasks of the project carried out in a month, including the framework building of more than 200 blocks of semi-arched double-sheet hydroponic greenhouses, the removal and filling of hundreds of thousands of cubic metres of overburden and bedding of an over 2 700 metre-long road.

The construction of circular vegetable cultivation device greenhouses and hemispheric glass hydroponic greenhouses, which can be claimed to be a symbol of the greenhouse complex, was a war against nature, a decisive battle.

The soldier-builders finally completed an underground structure project in time and built new-type greenhouses by dint of cooperative execution between units and continued and intensive construction as they forced their way through waist-deep mud to carry out their tasks that were impossible to do by the existing formula.

New methods were invented and introduced to speed up the project by several times and the ranks of skilled workers increased. As a result, the framework and infrastructure construction of greenhouse blocks were successfully completed and the construction of management, production and public buildings was rapidly carried out.

The soldier-builders perfectly ensured construction speed and quality at the same time, although they had to carry out huge and difficult tasks in succession in terms of workload or technology as the greenhouse complex construction, whose proportion of glass hydroponic greenhouses takes a large share as against the previous greenhouse farms, required to lay millions of metre-long pipelines for internal and external networks including those for the supply of nutritious solution and recovery, supply of carbonic acid gas and geothermal and heated water and the installation and assembly of equipment.

They perfectly built structures one by one in view of function and architectural beauty while flawlessly carrying out the work of installing greenhouse truss, vinyl covering and glass fixing and wound up road construction and other final projects in a short span of time.

Those who took charge of the construction of dwelling houses uniquely built multi- and low-storey dwellings and terraced houses for over 1 200 families, a nursery, kindergarten, school and polyclinic which blend in well with geomorphologic relief.

The soldier-builders could perform miracles and feats thanks to the warm sincerity of the service team made up of hundreds of wives of service personnel who encouraged them by conducting different service activities such as haircut, shoemaking and clothes making and supply service.

Officials and workers across the country made positive contributions to the building of a large-capacity greenhouse farm.

The state designing general bureau and designing sector channelled great speculation and effort into creating designs representing the times and reflecting the people’s aspirations and ideals, while the working people from institutions, enterprises and factories in Pyongyang Municipality completed broad sections of embankments and landscaping.

Many scientists, technicians, researchers and workers devoted their sincerity to the construction of the greenhouse complex, especially the State Academy of Sciences, Academy of Agricultural Science, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering, ministries of Machine-building Industry, Railways and Information Industry, Pyongyang Construction Committee, Sangwon Cement Complex, Chollima Tile Factory and Taean Friendship Glass Factory.

The large-scale greenhouse complex construction, which had been said to take several years by existing formulas, was wrapped up in a matter of one year.

The modern, advanced, convenient and unique Kangdong Greenhouse Complex, where various kinds of vegetables including tasty and nutritious green, fruit-bearing and functional vegetables are mass-produced, is a grand monumental edifice in the great era of Kim Jong Un.
