Projects for the development of regional industry are dynamically being pushed forward throughout the country after the solemn declaration of the revolution in regional industry made by Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, by digging the first spadeful of earth for groundbreaking for the construction of regional-industry factories in Songchon County   reverberated through many cities and counties.

The Regional Development 20×10 Policy advanced by the WPK is aimed at improving a level higher the basic material and cultural living standards of regional people who make up the overwhelming majority of the DPRK population by rebuilding the regional economy on a completely new and advanced basis on a nationwide scale.

Many people have so far regarded the gap between towns and rural communities and between the capital and provinces as an axiom. And it has been the common belief that the more society develops, the wider the gap grows between people in their living standards due to the imbalance between regions.

A great change has begun to take place on this land to put an end to this old concept, which was thought to be an inevitable and natural reality for too long.

It is the noble view of the General Secretary that the cherished desire of the regional people is that of the WPK, the development of regional industry is that of the regions and regional development leads to comprehensive rejuvenation and growth of the country.

He unveiled the plan for the Regional Development 20×10 Policy as he declared at the 10th Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly that it is the immutable principle of the WPK and the DPRK government that there may be differences between regions in their geographical setting, resources, economic potentials and living environment, but there should be no backward region in the aspect of the people's living in the territory of the DPRK.

Now that the country is pushing ahead with large-scale housing construction projects in the rural communities across the country, an unprecedentedly huge and daring front for bidding a final farewell to the backwardness of the rural communities, it is easier said than done to decide on opening another gigantic front for launching a new phase of development of the regional industry of the country and performing the two stages of the revolution in parallel.

But the General Secretary made another courageous decision for the people though many things are still in short supply and the situation is difficult in order to ensure that everyone who is born on this land can equally lead an abundant and civilized life under the socialist policy of the state.

Invaluable experience has already been created in Kimhwa County of Kangwon Province, once known as a barren land, for the development of regional industry in the DPRK under his meticulous care.

The modernized county foodstuff factory mass-produces a variety of foodstuffs including tasty soy sauce, soybean paste, oil, sweets and cakes, wild fruit juice and bread every day and the neatly-arranged garment factory normally produces various kinds of clothes.

Writing paper, toilet paper, notebooks and other paper products of the environment protection- and saving-oriented paper mill are favoured by residents of the county and the products of the daily necessities of the factory including various kinds of soap, plastic vessels, woodwork and grasswork are also popular among them.

It is the intention of the WPK to build more stylish, splendid and modern regional-industry factories than those of Kimhwa County at the top level in all cities and counties.

As all policies of the WPK put the people first and serve the interests and wellbeing of the people of the whole country without distinction, be they live in the capital or the provinces, they have always been translated into brilliant reality meeting with unanimous support and approval of all the people.

Therefore, now all the Korean people have turned out for implementing the policies, picturing the bright future of regional development with joy.

Thanks to the wise guidance of the General Secretary who leads the grand march towards epoch-making changes at the forefront to radically develop the whole country into an ideal land of the people, a new era of regional changes will be ushered in as an immediate reality, not that in the distant future.
