Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, president of the Russian Federation, paid a state visit to the People's Republic of China on May 16-17.

The Russian President met and had talks with President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

At the talks both sides discussed the issue of further strengthening the combination of development strategies and steadily enriching the content of bilateral cooperation with this year marking the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as a new starting point and exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern.

Both presidents signed a joint statement on intensifying comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between the two countries in the new era on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

The joint statement recognized practical cooperation between the two countries as an important factor in accelerating the economic and social development and common prosperity of the two countries, ensuring technical progress and the sovereignty of their national economies, realizing state modernization, promoting the well-being of the people and safeguarding the stability and sustainability of the world economy.

Both sides expressed their willingness to keep intensifying practical cooperation and promoting close collaboration in all fields on the principle of mutual benefits and co-prosperity, jointly overcome external challenges and unfavourable factors, improve the efficiency of bilateral cooperation and realize the stability and highly qualitative development of cooperation.

In the joint statement, both sides were opposed to the US’ and its allies’ moves to aggravate the situation on the Korean peninsula by perpetrating threatening acts in the military field and inciting confrontation and armed clash with the DPRK and strongly demanded that the US take effective measures to ease the tense military situation and abandon blackmail, sanctions and tools for pressure.

The joint statement expressed serious concern over the plans of “AUKUS” that will have a negative impact on the strategic stability in the Asia-Pacific region and a stand against the interference of outside forces in the issue of ensuring security and stability in the South China Sea.

Specified in the statement were the issue of fairly coordinating the Palestinian issue on the basis of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Al-Quds as its capital and others.

Documents on bilateral cooperation between the two countries in different fields including the economy, trade and nature conservation were signed.

During his visit, the Russian President met with the Premier of the Chinese State Council and laid a wreath at the Monument to the People's Heroes at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

He also attended an opening ceremony of a Year of Russia-China Culture and concert in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China and an opening ceremony of a Russia-China expo and Russia-China inter-regional cooperation forum.
