Recently, tens of thousands of people have moved into newly-built 10 000 flats of the second stage in the Hwasong area and flats in Jonwi Street in Pyongyang, unfolding a peculiar scene that brought delight to many.
As they settle in the new flats completely fresh in the architectural style and provided with all living conditions, they are unanimous in saying: “Our system is the best!” This is an expression of gratitude to the state that funds the housing construction and supplies new flats to people gratis.
In recent years, the construction project for 50 000 flats launched in 2021 has proceeded apace, with the result that 10 000 flats in Songhwa Street and over 800 flats in Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District were built and supplied to citizens in 2022, and the first-stage 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area in 2023.
Those who moved into new houses are labour innovators and meritorious persons who have worked at their jobs for a long time, as well as families with many children, living at old houses or sharing rooms with many family members.
“Our system is the best”—this reflects the people’s gratitude to the state which administers the policies to improve their material and cultural living standards as early as possible, and their resolve to repay the favour by working harder.
The third-stage project for 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area which started in February is now in full swing in Pyongyang.
