Shortly ago, we visited the Kim Jong Suk Nursery at the foot of picturesque Moran Hill in the capital city of Pyongyang.
The nursery with a total floor space of 7 800 square metres has 20 or so edification rooms, indoor wading pool, music room, general playing room and other facilities.
It was the day of measuring the height and weight of the children, so we followed the headmistress into the medical room on the first floor.
Doctors were measuring the height and weight of the children, all of whom looked plump and healthy.
“We are happy that all children have reached the standards in height and weight,” said a nurse. Her remarks enabled us to appreciate how the nurses work to take good care of the children.
The next leg was an edification room, where children were lively dancing, singing the song “Kim Jong Suk Nursery Is the Best” to the tune of the organ played by a nurse.
The headmistress said that the daily routine starts with song and dance time, followed by other times for playing with toys, outdoor activities and snack.
We looked round a sunny and cosy playing room and a bedroom after the hall with rows of individual wardrobes and chests of shoes and cups identified with pictures suited to the juvenile psychology.
We climbed onto the second floor, finding a large flower-decorated daily schedule and pictures hanging on a wall and a noticeboard about successful graduates from the nursery with their photos on the other wall.
The nursery has made dozens of multimedia presentations to use in education, and taught the kids paduk (go), abacus, the Rubik’s cube and others, which help improve their intelligence.
We also looked round the nature study room, indoor wading pool and general playing room.
At the dining hall, seeing children relishing their meal with spoons in their little hands, we could have a better understanding of the state benefits of supplying the children across the country with nutritious foodstuffs such as dairy goods, confectionery, meat, eggs and fish on a daily basis.
Wrapping up our visit, we hoped that the children would grow healthy at the cradle of happiness and their future be rosy.
