Tideland projects make headway in west coastal areas

Tideland reclamation gains momentum in the western coastal area of the DPRK.

It is the determination of the Workers’ Party of Korea to complete the tideland reclamation plan in the next few years.

The Korean People’s Army unit in charge of the reclamation of the Sokhwa tideland worked out a detailed plan for each process and pushed ahead with the project, true to the decision of the Ninth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea on completing the project within this year.

Since the whole area of the site for the sea dike was covered in a layer of soft mud, a large amount of earth was required.

The soldier-builders launched a 200 000-cubic-metre blast at the beginning of this year and carried out a series of medium- and small-scale blasts to secure enough rubble and earth needed for the primary dam construction.

They placed more than 8 000 cubic metres of earth and stones on a daily average and introduced rational construction methods according to the variation of the sea water level to prevent the hollowing of the seabed at the closing section, and thus ensured both the quality and speed of the project.

The primary damming project of the Sokhwa tideland was successfully completed on May 3.

The soldier-builders who were involved in the Yangchon tideland reclamation project in Kangnyong County finished the primary damming project in a month to make a breakthrough for obtaining a large acreage of cultivated land.

The workers of the North Phyongan Provincial General Tideland Reclamation Enterprise are pushing ahead with the project for the first section of the Aedo tideland according to a phased plan.

The workers and soldier-builders at the tideland reclamation sites in different parts of the country, including the Naejangdo, Taesuapdo, Woldo and Kakhoedo tidelands, are also making progress as planned in the projects by building dams across the rough sea.
