The Russian permanent representative to the UN criticized the US and the West for hindering the use of space for peaceful purposes in a meeting of the UN Security Council on May 20.
In connection with the fact that a resolution on the prevention of arms race in space failed to be adopted owing to the US’ and the West’s opposition to it at the meeting, he said that obstructing the adoption of the objective and very urgent resolution for the use of space for peaceful purposes evokes a serious concern.
Thus they threw off their masks, revealing what kind of people they are of their own accord, he said and stressed that the vote on the resolution clearly showed who aspires to developing space for peaceful purposes and who seeks to militarize space.
Despite the bellicose tendencies of the US and the West, Russia will continue to remain faithful to its duty in space in conformity with international law and direct all efforts to using space for peaceful purposes, he stated.
