The Unjong Tea Drink Factory is located in the suburbs of Pyongyang.
The factory with a design of tea leaves on the wall seems to give off the sweet fragrance of tea.
Seen in the entrance hall of the factory is a photo of President Kim Il Sung seeing a tea tree cultivated at home.
With a plan to produce tea in the country and supply it to the people, he personally planted tea saplings at his residence and cultivated them on trial. He selected a site for acclimatizing them and took detailed measures for conducting research to this end.
True to his intention, agricultural scientists selected several tea tree species suited to the climatic and soil conditions of the country and with stronger resistance to cold, a better yield and high quality and established corresponding cultivation and processing technologies.
Even when the country was undergoing hardships, Chairman Kim Jong Il took measures related to the cultivation of tea trees and named the newly-produced tea "Unjong" in order to convey the benevolent care of the President to posterity and saw to it that the plantation was built in a more splendid way.
The Unjong Tea Plantation located in Kangnyong County of South Hwanghae Province on the west coast of the country is known as a “famous tea-growing place” and “pollution-free tea production base” for it is well ventilated and has the annual sunshine and mean temperature appropriate for the growth of tea trees.
The tea favoured by people is associated with the loving care of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
One year, he gave instructions to develop tea culture, including those to increase the area of tea tree cultivation and develop tea leaf processing technology to produce a large variety of tea drinks including cold tea.
He repeatedly stressed the need to create tea tree plantations as planned and increase the production of tea leaves to contribute to promoting the people's health and civilized life at several important meetings. He took a measure to improve the service of Unjong Tea and build a factory with splendour for producing tea drinks which people can drink at any time and place.
The Unjong Tea Drink Factory was successfully built several years ago under the guidance of Kim Jong Un who chose its site and solved problems arising in its construction.
Equipped with a labour-, site- and energy-saving production system, the factory produces a variety of distinctive and tasty tea drinks.
