It happened one day in MayJuche 50(1961) whena project for expandingthe road between Wasan-dong and Ryongsong in Pyongyang was under way.
On his visit to a kindergarten near theconstruction site together with university students, Kim Jong Il saw anorgan in a room and approached it.
Recalling with deep emotion Children’sDay on June 1 1953 when the Fatherland Liberation War was at its height, hetold the university students that he wrote President Kim Il Sung aletter eagerly wishing his well-being.
He said that his ardent wish had been cherisheddearly and steadily in his heart not only in the past but at present and wasbecoming the unanimous aspiration and ardent wish of the Korean people who weredetermined to hold the President in high esteem for all ages and remain loyalto him, adding that his good health was the greatest wish of the people and thewhole of the world.
He composed a song wishing the President well-being as he wantedto keep the content of the day’s letter as a song, he said, before quietly singingthe song while playing the organ.
At the students’ earnest request, Kim Jong Il taught them how to sing thesong.
When a student asked him the title of thesong after learning it, he said that he had not yet titled the song and that ifthere should be the title of it, he thought it should be titled Song of Best Wishes.
Thus the song came to be known to thepublic.
