A ceremony of lighting the torch of the Ninth International Martial Art Games was held in Pyongyang on the 17th.
The torch lit in the flame cauldron of martial arts in the sports village of Chongchun Street will be brought to kindle the cauldron at the venue of the opening ceremony of the Ninth International Martial Art Games to be held in Tashkent of Uzbekistan in November this year.
Present at the ceremony were Kim Myong Hun, Vice-Premier of the Cabinet of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Kim Myong Gun, Chairman of the Korean Taekwon-Do Committee, Taekwon-Do instructors and players, and working people in Pyongyang.
Also on hand were executive committeemen of the International Martial Art Games Committee and the International Taekwon-Do Federation, martial art representatives of different countries and members of foreign diplomatic corps in the DPRK.
A speech was made by President of the International Taekwon-Do Federation Ri Yong Son who is Chairman of the International Martial Art Games Committee. Then, the torch to the games was lit and handed over to Chairman of the Taekwon-Do Association of Uzbekistan Raziz Khasanov who is Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Ninth International Martial Art Games.
Speeches were made by Raziz Khasanov, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Ninth International Martial Art Games and Chairman of the Taekwon-Do Association of Uzbekistan, and Vyacheslav Timofeyev, Member of the Executive Committee of the International Martial Art Games Committee and Chairman of the World Karate Confederation.
Then, there were a performance given by art circle members of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace and demonstrations of Taekwon-Do, Wushu and karate players.
