U.S. and West Condemned at UNHRC Session for Misusing Human Rights Issue for Ulterior Purposes

The 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council recently held an interactive dialogue on annual report of the High Commissioner - ITEM 2.

During this interactive dialogue, too, the U.S. and the West tried groundlessly to find fault with the human rights situations in specific countries, and went so far as to label independent countries “human rights violators” and “inhumane criminal states”, blathering about a “thorough investigation by the international community to establish the liability”.

This aroused due backlash from the participating states.

China made clear its stance that it would never tolerate any criticism against them based on false information over the unreasonable comments of some Western countries on Xinjiang, Tibet and Hong Kong issues.

Iran and Cuba rejected the groundless criticism of the U.S. and other Western countries and brought forth a counterargument that the U.S. and the West are the very places where systematic human rights violations are openly perpetrated and unilateral coercive measures forced by these countries are making a seriously negative impact on the sustainable development and enjoyment of human rights in many countries.

Venezuela, Syria, Belarus and other countries denounced and rejected the act of the U.S. and the West which are misusing the human rights issue for ulterior political purposes, after expressing strong disapproval of the continuous tolerance towards the practice of groundlessly slandering and debasing sovereign state in the UN human rights arena.

Meanwhile, at the time of discussion of the ITEM 2, many countries strongly called for objectivity and autonomy in the activities of human rights organizations under the UN system.

Member states of the “Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations” issued a joint statement, asserting that genuine protection and promotion of human rights can only be achieved when all countries and human rights organizations respect the principles of respect for sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs stipulated in the Charter of the United Nations and follow the principles of impartiality, objectivity, transparency, non-selectivity, non-politicization and non-confrontation.

Russia stressed that the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights(OHCHR) shuts its eyes to the systematic human rights violations in the Western countries, but selectively criticizes those countries that do not meet the Western human rights standard, and maintained that the Office should observe the principles of objectivity and independence in its activities, rather than blindly following the West.

Many countries participating in the session observed that the UN human rights organizations should strictly adhere to the principles of objectivity and impartiality in their activities, and promote constructive dialogues and cooperation.
