China Denounces U.S. for Arms Sale to Taiwan

Date: 01/07/2024 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

Recently, the spokesperson for Chinese foreign ministry strongly denounced the U.S. State Department for approving the plan of arms sales to Taiwan that is worth around US$ 360 million and stated as follows:

For all consistent opposition and strict negotiation of China, the U.S intends to sell arms to Taiwan of China again, which is in grave violation of the One China principle and the China-U.S. 3 Joint Communiques, especially the rules of "8.17 Communique". This is a grave infringement upon sovereignty and security interests of China, serious destruction of peace and stability of the China-U.S. relationship and the Taiwan Strait, and sends an extremely wrong signal to the separatist forces of "Taiwan independence". China resolutely opposes and strongly condemns the U.S. for such an act.

The U.S., with its repeated arms sale to Taiwan, allows the authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party to stubbornly hold on to the "Taiwan independence" and backs it to challenge the One China principle.

This again proves that the greatest threat to the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the biggest destruction of the situation in the region today are precisely the separating moves of the "Taiwan independence" forces and the connivance and support given by the outside forces led by the U.S.

The reckless attempt of the authorities of the Democratic Progressive Party of "seeking independence by force of arms" and the attempt of the U.S. of "supporting independence of Taiwan by force of arms" are tantamount to the act of digging their own graves and will be doomed to failure.

The Taiwan issue is the hard-core of the core interests of China and the very first red line not to be crossed in the China-U.S. relationship.

The resolute will and the great ability of China to oppose "Taiwan independence" and to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity must never be underestimated.

The spokesperson underlined that China would take a decisive and strong measure to safeguard its sovereignty, security and territorial integrity.
