A research group of the nano sci-tech institute at Kim Chaek University of Technology has developed new nano composite plastic belts for coal mining.
The application of nanotechnology in the production of plastic belts makes it possible to improve their dynamical, mechanical, and electrical properties so that they could be used more efficiently in different economic sectors. Even the countries that produce natural rubber or synthetic rubber tend to manufacture belts with plastic instead of rubber.
Scientists of the institute, who have made good achievements in the application and research of nano-materials, conducted research to develop nano composite plastic belts for coal mining based on domestic raw materials in line with the trend of using plastic belts.
They selected locally available nano-materials and continued with research and experiment. As a result, they managed to obtain a new nano composite plastic material by mixing plastic material with nano powder that has undergone special chemical treatment.
On this basis, they successfully solved problems arising in the heat treatment of the belt mesh dipped into the nano composite material solution, and have established the production process.
The new nano composite plastic belt production technology is expected to help boost the production and reduce the frequency of mishaps by friction between rubber belts and drive rollers in coal and ore mines.
