The Academy of Forestry Science has developed a new method of acclimatizing and widely cultivating wild fruit trees of good species, which has been applied into practice.
Typical wild fruit trees of good species include dwarf pine-nut tree, calcium plum and Ribes nigrum .
The dwarf pine-nut tree is less half of the height of the same species, while its productivity is five times that of the latter.
It begins to bear fruit three years after its sapling is transplanted and it may produce more than 300 kilograms of fruit after eight years, when 1 000 trees are closely planted per hectare, and over one ton after 15 years. It can be cultivated in an agroforestry method in the areas under 800 metres above sea level and spread in a way that a bud or branch of a dwarf pine-nut tree is grafted onto a young pine-nut tree.
Five years after nearly 10 000 calcium plum saplings are closely planted per hectare, they may bear over 15 tons of fruit, the amount enough to make 30 tons of health drink.
It is said that the calcium plum contains calcium about six times that of apple.
The tree can be cultivated in an agroforestry method or spread by cutting and tissue culture in all areas except some parts of Ryanggang Province.
Ribes nigrum bears fruit that contains vitamin C over 15 times more than apple.
Close planting of 5 000 trees per hectare may harvest over five tons of fruit after five years, with which to make over 40 tons of health drink. In all areas except the northern alpine region, it can be cultivated in an agroforestry method and spread by seed planting, cutting and layering.
Scientists say that when kiwi, Schizandra chinensis , Vaccinium corymbosum , Quercus robur and other good species are planted to build forests of economic value or cultivated in an agroforestry method, it may be possible to provide a sufficient supply of raw materials to foodstuff factories and reap considerable profits.
