Ri Chang Jong is a coach who trainedseveral players as world-famous aces.
In the 1980s, he took charge of thetraining of Ri Jae Sik.
Under his guidance, Ri Jae Sik stole theshow in national competitions, won the then military wrestling championships ofsocialist countries and later became a world champion.
Among the players he trained are Jo TongHyok and Yang Kyong Il.
He was awarded the title of MeritedAthlete after coaching Jo Tong Hyok to grab a gold medal in the freestylewrestling event of the Asian Wrestling Championships held in Juche 98 (2009).
He redoubled his efforts and made a greatcontribution to making Yang Kyong Il become a world champion by winning thefree-style wrestling at the World Wrestling Championships held in Juche 98(2009).
Later, Yang Kyong Il distinguishedhimself as a world champion at several international events and won anothergold medal in the free-style wrestling at the World Wrestling Championshipsheld in Juche 103 (2014).
Ri Chang Jong was awarded the title ofPeople's Athlete, the highest honour for Korean sportspersons. He was alsohonoured to attend the Seventh National Conference of Sportspeople and have aphoto taken with General Secretary Kim Jong Un.
