Agricultural guidance organs at all levels have taken substantial measures to attain the grain production goal for this year in order to implement the decisions of the Tenth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

The Agricultural Commission and agricultural guidance organs in provinces, cities and counties analyzed and reviewed the deviations revealed in the course of going through each farming process in the first half of the year. On the basis of it they are taking detailed, realistic and practical measures to conclude this year’s farming successfully and make preparations for the next year’s farming.

All farms across the DPRK direct efforts to finishing all farm operations in time and in a qualitative way, including the harvest of preceding crops, grain procurement, weeding and fertilizer application.

They have been taken steps to ensure a rapid, accurate and scientific weather forecast in close contact with the relevant units, increase the per-hectare yield by manuring and cultivating crops properly in line with the weather conditions and minimize the damage at the time of outbreak of disastrous abnormal weather conditions like typhoon, flood, drought and high temperature.

They are concentrating on the preparations for next year’s farming of wheat and barley including the securing of seeds and supply of farm machines and farming and other materials like seeding machines and fertilizers, as they are going to increase the wheat and barley acreages.

In-depth discussions are held on the issues of securing, carefully sorting out, processing and storing grain seeds in a responsible manner, pushing ahead with the preparations of materials for making seedbeds, tillage of paddy and dry fields and production of self-sufficing manure as planned and planting tasty and highly nutritious varieties of crops by strengthening the breed examination system.

Realistic plans are developed and discussed to finish the irrigation construction scheduled for next year before the farming season on the basis of the experience gained in the irrigation projects of this year,

There has been a heated debate about how to survey and grasp the land to be used for farming by reclaiming tideland and forest land and use them for grain production. Creative ideas for producing quality farm machines that suit the actual conditions of the country by solving the scientific and technical problems arising in the mechanization of agriculture and for increasing the ratio of farm works done by machines are being generalized and practical steps are taking concrete shape.

Practical measures are also taken to prepare the construction of a modern wheat processing factory as a model and standard and pass on techniques related to the construction and operation of the factory.

Attention is being paid to boosting the production of meat and eggs by improving animal husbandry.

Proposals have been developed to build highly modern chicken farms and establish a regular system to ensure unified guidance over them and to consolidate the material foundations of the livestock farming sector including the securing of seeds of improved varieties and the supply of animal feed.
