A record downpour caused a serious crisis on July 27, in which more than 5 000 inhabitants were isolated in the zones vulnerable to flooding in several island areas of the city of Sinuiju and Uiju County of North Phyongan Province.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un arrived at an air base where the rescue operation was under way, by covering a long distance through the flooded rough path, and guided the work for the rescue and evacuation of the inhabitants from the areas hit by the downpour and likely to be afflicted by disaster. And the pilots of the Korean People’s Army Air Force involved in the rescue operation continued to make shuttle flights in a do-or-die spirit to save all the residents, thousands in all, from the dangerous situation.

Giving vent to his feelings at that time, an official of the Soho Farm in Uiju County said, “We did not really know that the respected Marshal Kim Jong Un was waiting for us at the windy airport in the rain. At the moment when we met the Marshal, whom we wished to see even in a dream, tears welled up in spite of ourselves and we felt a lump in our throat. We, who were rescued from the jaws of death, had to express our gratitude to him first. But rather, he waved his hand warmly to us. We were moved to tears to see him, thinking that he is the greatest man in the world.”

Kim Jin Hyang, a farmer of workteam No. 1 of the Ojok Farm, gave birth to a son a few hours after she was rescued safely from the flooded area. She said that the flood came so suddenly that she got aboard the plane without making full preparations for delivery, but she had an easy delivery with the help of able doctors of the provincial maternity hospital who were deployed in a safe place. She expressed her thanks to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, saying that leading officials of the county Party committee visited her, a flood victim, before her blood relatives and health workers of the hospital took familial care of her. Such event can be seen only in our country led by him, she added.

Two days later, the 22nd emergency enlarged meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was held in an afflicted area in the city of Sinuiju in order to take urgent measures to repair the severe damage caused by the floods and heavy rains that hit some areas of the country including North Phyongan and Jagang provinces consecutively.

Upon hearing the news, an official of the Uiju County People's Committee said with excitement that only the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un could adopt such a crucial decision on building modern dwelling houses in the flooded areas and constructing embankments strong enough to withstand any natural disasters permanently. Thanks to the great favour he showed, flood victims were saved from danger, but still he took a state measure to provide them with new houses, he noted, expressing heartfelt thanks to the leader.

The office buildings of the Uiju county Party committee and the county people’s committee and those of the county-level organs were provided for the living of flood victims and officials often visited them to learn about their living and take appropriate steps, showing brotherly affection.

Therefore, the people in the afflicted areas unanimously said that though natural disasters happened, they were not afraid of them and cheers of "Hurrah!" for the Workers' Party and socialism would soon resound more loudly in all the reconstruction sites.
