Method of Treating Anticardiolipin Antibody-Induced Habitual Abortion Established

Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences has conducted research to put pathogenesis of habitual abortion related with antiphospholipid antibodies on a more scientific footing and establish rational treatment methods for it.
Anticardiolipin antibody is known to cause coagulation sthenia, leading to intrauterine growth retardation, intrauterine fetal death, pregnancy induced hypertension, habitual abortion and other diseases. However, it has not been made clear how anticardiolipin antibody for cardiolipin, a major component of cell membrane, is produced.
Recently, major attention has been paid to the relation between anticaridiolipin antibody and lipoperoxidation which are closely related with hypoxia, particularly hypoxia caused by internal respiration fault.
Researchers at the university have applied vitamin-aspirin-prednisolone combined modality therapy and examined the changes in hemopexis system, so as to assess the findings in hemopexis system and the amount of malonic dialdehyde in the pregnant women with anamnesis of more than twice miscarriage or premature birth and those who are pregnant over 20 weeks and positive or negative to anticardiolipin antibody. They have also analyzed their clinical symptoms, examination findings and pregnancy results and clarified the relations of the effect combined modality therapy and other factors (age, morbidity time, number of miscarriage and body weight) so as to confirm the effect of the vitamin-aspirin-prednisolone combined modality therapy.
The findings were that patients positive to anticardiolipin antibody experienced significant decrease of fibrinogen density and significant increase of fibrin degradation products density and platelet aggregation rate with the result that coagulation and thrombocyte series were activated and the amount of malonic dialdehyde increased. Besides, the researchers applied combined modality therapy—vitamins B2 and PP for helping the use of oxygen by cells for treating habitual abortion related with anticardiolipin antibody, vitamins E and C for antioxidation, enteric aspirin for coagulation repression and prednisolone for immunosuppression, making it possible to increase pregnancy maintenance rate up to 90.0%. This therapy has proved effective for helping patients with habitual abortion related with anticardiolipin antibody give an easy birth.
Their research results were published in Journal of Medical Science and Technology (Vol. 12, Issue 1, pp 37-47) on June 30, 2023.
