Every year efforts are being made in the DPRK to increase the aquatic resources in a planned way.
This year alone, ten billion fries and tens of millions of young fishes have been released across the country.
North Phyongan Province arranged over a million square metres of spawning grounds and stocked rivers, lakes and reservoirs with more than 1.8 billion fries.
Thaechon and Unsan counties arranged spawning grounds in a far-sighted manner to boost the production of fries including mandarin, carp and tilapia, and released a large number of young fishes into rivers and streams.
South Phyongan Province also stocked rivers and lakes with hundreds of millions of fries and millions of young fishes.
The city of Sunchon set up tens of thousands of square metres of egg-bearing straw mat in the relevant waters and produced tens of millions of fries and raised hundreds of thousands of young fishes by putting fish farming on a more scientific and intensive basis.
Similar successes were made in Tokchon and Kaechon cities which arranged a vast stretch of spawning grounds to increase the production of fries and released numerous younglings such as carp, Ryongjong fish and grass fish.
