The Phyongchon District floricultural station in Pyongyang decorates streets more beautifully with flowers of different shapes and colours.
The flower beds and stands in Mirae Scientists Street and the area of Puksong-dong No.1 are filled with fully-blown flowers, giving a refreshed feeling and emotion to the pedestrians.
According to an official of the station, they have all the conditions for cultivating various kinds of flowers by season.
They obtained necessary seeds, humus, fertilizer and agrochemical, grew different kinds of flower plants in greenhouses at the beginning of the year to decorate the beds and stands in the street with fully-blown flowers.
The plants they cultivate, including big marigold, French marigold and common marigold, number tens of thousands a year.
They have conducted nutritional management of the plants so that they can resist the sweltering weather in mid-summer, and taken preventive measures against harmful insects.
In order to renew flower decoration by season in line with the state of green areas in the streets and their surroundings, they are raising top primrose, and applying methods for making flower colours brighter and the flowers bigger.
The effect of decoration differs according to where and in which form the flowers are distributed, said So Yun Hui, technical instructor of the station, adding that all employees pay attention to creating flower decoration designs.
Many employees have presented original ideas, which have been completed through collective discussion; this contributes to decorating the streets in a more characteristic way.
Thanks to their efforts, the streets in the district are becoming more beautiful.
