Students at Kim Chaek University of Technology stood out at the national machine design contest of university students-2024, which was simultaneously held in Pyongyang and eastern and western parts of the country on July 23-28.
More than 420 students selected from 85 universities across the country got together at Kim Chaek University of Technology, Hamhung University of Chemical Industry and Phyongsong University of Coal-mining Industry to compete in drawing-by-hand, individual and collaboration design events.
The drawing-by-hand event demanded that the contestants work out built-up structures and principles of common machine elements in half an hour, while the individual event required them to produce three- and four-dimensional designs of common machine parts (30-50 pieces) and present models of 3D assembly and parts, as well as assembly designs and 4D analysis, in 210 minutes.
In the collaboration design event, a group composed of two or three contestants was to carry out in 240 minutes a project covering the whole process of producing a mechanism optimum design of a partial production line, 3D assembly model and design, 4D motion and analysis simulations, structural optimum design, and automatic cost accounting, and present a scheme of the project.
Eleven students from Kim Chaek University of Technology excelled in the three events. They scored high points in the drawing-by-hand event by presenting a precise design to prevent screws from getting loose and giving an explicit explanation to its principle.
In the individual event, they were highly appreciated as they completed earlier the three- and four-dimensional designs of a blade planetary mill, a task selected by drawing lots.
In the collaboration design event dedicated to a multi-dimensional design of a plastic injector, they managed to deal with the uphill task by giving full play to their ability and spirit of cooperation, rationally distributing workloads and ensuring effective communication.
“This is the fifteenth success we have achieved in the annual contest,” said Kim Kil Nam, chief of the university educational affairs. “I’m proud our students have been groomed to work out any design.”
