Now great efforts are directed worldwide to developing instruments for accurately monitoring airborne particulate matter pollutants.
Recently, the electronic material research section of the Faculty of Electronic Engineering of Kim Chaek University of Technology has manufactured a new model of atmospheric environment measuring instrument conducive to environmental protection and introduced it into urban management and various other sectors of the national economy.
Kim Yong Hyok, a researcher, said that the knottiest problem in developing the instrument was to perform a scientific test necessary for measuring separate airborne particulate matter pollutants that hamper the functions of sensors.
The researchers of the section, in contact with the environmental hygiene institute under the Academy of Medical Sciences and other relevant units, selected a sensor for measuring in real time the intensity of 7 kinds of particulate matter pollutants affecting the atmospheric environment and assiduously conducted research to analyze their scientific and technical specifications in detail.
In the course of this, they manufactured a classifier separating harmful particulate matters from the atmosphere and created conditions for accurately deciding the amounts of airborne pollutants by introducing AI.
On the basis of this, they succeeded in developing a new model for measuring particulate matter pollutants in the atmosphere.
The instrument has proved in practice that its measurement indexes are highly accurate.
In addition, the researchers have also developed a portable version that works at any place and in real time, contributing to protecting the environment.
The instrument was highly appreciated at the 37th National Sci-Tech Festival.
