A New Year performance was given in the presence of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un at the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace in Pyongyang on New Year's Day in 2024.
The members of the dance group of Minhung Primary School in Moranbong District were honoured to take part in the performance and have a photo taken with him.
In the past, too, the group members participated in the New Year performances and TV shows on several occasions.
It was more than ten years ago when the group was organized at Minhung Primary School.
On hearing that a dancer of a professional art troupe was assigned to the group as an instructor, some girls came to the group voluntarily, saying that they wanted to learn how to dance.
Encouraged by this, Choe Un Suk, the instructor of the group, went at her job with confidence. But everything did not go smoothly from the outset. Students with a quick eye for learning soon did well, but others did not.
She made exacting demands on the slow learners. But being young primary school students, they reluctantly and mechanically practised their movements.
As they made no progress, Choe was impatient and upset.
She said to herself.
They are primary school students who still need the attention of their parents. Only when I become their mother before being the instructor, can I understand their minds and produce national dance pieces which reflect their psychological world.
From then on, she often met and talked with the class teachers of the group members and visited their families to understand the innermost world of the children.
In the course of this, she came to know their characters, hobbies and even their favourite foods.
On the basis of her rich experience as a professional dancer, she, while breathing the same air with the members of the group, began to discover and teach the delicate, beautiful, soft, elegant and energetic patterns of the national dance as suited to their age and psychological characteristics.
She paid particularly close attention to helping the group members perform the various dance movements and handle props correctly to the tune of the Korean rhythm.
Holiday Hand-Drum Dance , Satchel Dance and other pieces they created were highly appreciated at Pyongyang municipal and national art festivals of schoolchildren.
While operating the group, she has received several certificates of registration of new teaching methods.
